Prof Pieter Rousseau Fourie has been practising paediatrics for 24 years of which 22 in private practice. At present, he is closely associated with the Cape Gate Mediclinic and also serves as the visiting paediatric consultant to Optima@RustEnVrede clinic.

 

His main interests are immune deficiencies as well as ADHD, Tourette and the Autistic Spectrum Disorders. He also maintains a direct relationship with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences as an extra-ordinary associate Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care and an adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering where he oversees a number of research projects in the area of ADHD and autism.

He has extensive knowledge and experience in the field and his prime focus is to involve parents and caretakers in the decision making process and reach a consensus decision before proceeding with a treatment or management strategy.

DEGREES:

Bachelor of Science (Electronic Engineering)

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

In 1988 he obtained the status of a Professional Engineer and one year later he completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Medical Physiology). 

He also completed his Master of Medicine (Paediatrics) in 1994 and was subsequently appointed as associate professor in medical physiology and biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Stellenbosch University (1995-1996) and recently (2015-2019) as Head of the Bioengineering Research Group, Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
