“I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say other way - things I had no words for.” – Georgia O’Keeffe

I am married and have one child. I really enjoy spending time outdoors.

BDram (University of Stellenbosch), BA Psychology Honours (University of the Western Cape), Masters in Clinical Psychology and Community Counselling (University of Stellenbosch).

I have been qualified as Clinical Psychologist since 2013. I have lectured and presented at South African tertiary institutions as well as for pharmacy students from America and Singapore. I also lectured at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University regarding conflict management and stress management for healthcare workers in the healthcare setting. During 2018 I worked at an in-patient addiction and psychiatric clinic with patients from the Netherlands. Addictions and disorders treated include:  Substance-Related Disorders including Cocaine-Related Disorders, Eating Disorders and process addictions such as gaming, sex and love addiction, plus treating patients with Personality Disorders.

I have a special interest in integrating my drama and psychology degrees. While studying drama, I specialised in theatre for development which holds similar values to critical community psychology. Tools that this experience enables me to use are art and drama therapy, including role play and group work, which I thoroughly enjoy. I believe in creating conditions in which people can empower themselves.

In my experience, creative approaches to psychotherapy have been valuable when working with patients who have a psychiatric diagnosis which impedes their communication, are traumatised, have difficulties in containing their intense emotions, and have social and behavioural difficulties, or present with somatic difficulties. I also have a special interest in group psychotherapy. I have used these techniques when working at psychiatric clinics, psychiatric hospitals such as at RustenVrede when doing workshops at Boys Town, and during my time working within student counselling in higher education.

Lastly, I have a special interest in using evidence-based trauma treatment and have been involved in debriefing students in higher education after a crisis occurs such as the death of a student.
